Do you need to know Spanish to work in Los Angeles?
Next summer I would like to move to Los Angeles and get a job. I really love the city but the problem is that there a lot of those people and I don't know Spanish and I'm not gonna learn it either. But I heard that you need to know Spanish to get work is that true?

No, you don't need to speak Spanish to get a job in Los Angeles.

Useful, but not necessary. Might want to change your attitude, however. Learning a language is always useful. When in Rome...

OM is correct. It's like any other life-skill, it is not mandatory, but it wouldn't hurt to have it in your job skills arsenal. Case in point: You work in a job servicing the general public. You get paycheck bonuses if you sell a certain amount of widgets. If you can talk the language of 50% more of your customers you will sell more widgets and make more money. Another thing to consider is that bilingual job applicants are more valuable to an employer than people who can only speak a single language.

No, it isn't necessary to know Spanish in Los Angeles. There are enough Spanish speakers from Latin and South America here already. ;) Generally speaking, however, it can never hurt to take up a new language or at least learn a few common phrases. It's also a good idea to learn about people's culture. You'll be able to communicate better and have a better understanding of what you see all around. I suggest reading some Insider Guides to Los Angeles. Good luck with your plans! :)
