The bartending schools don't have any leads. They are graduating 20 people for every opening. You are seeing that first-hand. Offer to sub in for any person who calls in sick at the last minute. Or for someone who is going on vacation. That might get you hired for one or 2 nights. But it might be what you need to get discovered. You might even make up a business card saying that you are a Professional Substitute Bartender.

I'm 14, 15 in January. I am applying at a bunch of cofee shops. Atleast its better than McDonalds. Just apply at about 20 different places. Chances are that about half of them with read your age and throw your application away. (It sucks). Some of them will give you a job interview and hey maybe a few will want to hire you. Thats my strategy. Good Luck!
4 :
Why don't you try Target and Wal-Mart, maybe even Lowes and Home Depot. They may have stocking jobs and are usually clean places to work and pay should be fair. Good luck. Please don't neglect your school work. You main job right now is making good grades and being an great student.
5 :
try jamba juice, or starbucks...sumthin like that...i would stay FAR away from fast food places, but i worked at jamba juice and its a good place for a young kid...good luck.
6 :
simple answer...telemarketing or food service. If good looking retail may be available to you as well, but have to look good.
7 :
go to you counselor in high school, there r a lot of jobs available, you do not have to go search, just go to your school
8 :
no where

About can a person live off background acting (extra work) in Los angeles

Can a person live off background acting (extra work) in Los angeles?

Probably not by itself, but union background acting could be one of several regular jobs that combine to allow you to survive with some comfort if your other career(s) allow for scheduling flexibility and give you access to specialty costumes and props, such as for a firefighter, an EMT or a police officer. Comparing the cost of transportation in LA vs. the cost of transportation in NYC, I think you'd have an even better shot in NYC. But don't believe the all-too-common impression that extra work will somehow provide a path to work as a "speaking actor." That's an entirely different career path.
2 :
I don't know, can you live off of like 60 bucks a day? Oh yeah and you wouldn't be working every day. You could do it full time if you could find a job that allows you to work from a lap top so you could be doing another job while you are in the holding area.
3 :
Not in California, everything is too expensive here, what you could conceivably earn (provided you were that busy) might support you in the midwest but the cost of living is way too high here. LA is really spread out, the gasoline alone (which is never under the $3.00/gallon mark and often gets close to $4 will eat any earnings you get. Look into careers where you can work from home (like web design or programming if you are computer inclined) or even selling Mary Kay can suppliment your income.

About what are some good ideas for freelance work in los angeles

what are some good ideas for freelance work in los angeles?
basically, I want to freelance my way through life right now...at least for the next 6 months. I'm a little burnt out on 40 hours a week at one job...and way too young to be burned out. I also want to do some traveling, so making my own schedule is key. Other than CraigsList, where can I look find freelance or seriously part time positions? Office stuff, personal assistant, virtual assistant...anything (almost)!

Good question. Apple One staffing has placed a lot of people this way. Another idea is to contact a local staffing agency in Hollywood/LA area - they often hire part-time people to sit in various tv show audiences - it's easy money and you just sit, clap, and you're done for the day. Good luck!
2 :
Craigs list.... best bet.
3 :
How about buying a camera and stalking celebrities? I hear it can pay pretty well. Seriously, try the paper, you may also find a legit position on say Monster, or related sites.

Many people do this commute - but know that it is a long one. 78 mile to downtown LA http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Hesperia,+CA&daddr=800+N+Alameda+St,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90012+(Los+Angeles+City+Hall)&geocode=FRVODQIdciEC-Sl_EEfDDl3DgDEgOlj5WuMDBw%3BCS_RGQWGnoLcFXyiBwId7uXz-CFVs3dAAGrjtw&hl=en&mra=pd&sll=34.271056,-117.791272&sspn=0.973697,2.705383&ie=UTF8&z=10 it takes about 2 hours or 1 1/2 with little traffic. If you commute check out a VAN pool - (800) COMMUTE to lower your costs... It would be easier to live in Hesperia on 2 minimum wage jobs than i/n LA but it will still be tough. I hope the move changes your nick to infinite happiness
2 :
Hesperia is cheaper, but it's 80 miles EACH way. It takes me 2+ hours to commute from Brea, about 40 miles away, and it's a killer. Figure 4 hours EACH WAY from Hesperia. WIth gas over $3.50 per gallon, you might just earn enough money to pay for gas. You'll have to live in your car. Sorry, the math just doesn't work out.
3 :
The commute would be costly Hesperia is approximately 80-90 miles from LA. Yes, It would be cheaper for a roof over your head but GAS........ whooo, too much. My mother drove from Victorville to 29 Palms daily and back, which is about 90 miles, and the gas took a financial toll on our family
